The Caribbean is a terrific place to visit. This blogger has been in Jamaica and San Salvador, the suspected place of Columbus' landing. The islands are rich in history but are plagued with poverty, disease, and the ever present no-see-ums. The food and people are wonderful but watch out for pirates, especially lady pirates! Arrrgh!

Barbie, come with me! It's also a diver's paradise. We should leave soon, as the hurricane season will soon be upon us.

Oh, Hurricane season is already here: June 1 - Nov. 30. However, if you go to Grand Cayman, sometimes they have hurricane rates.

Jood, it looks as though Barbie and I missed Carib for next weekend, but perhaps she'll go to Grand Cayman with me! Thanks for the warning; we could have been swept to sea!

Barbie, I climbed a 100' wall in San Sal with rental equipment! Yeah, yeah, I know, but I was young and foolish.

Hi David,

Nice word but to experience it in a day to day existence is better yet.

Not going to the carribbean to dive in the summer time because it is hurricane season is like not going sking in the winter because there might be a blizzard. Check your weather report. Lived in the Dom. Rep. over 20 years - 1 hurricane.

Okay, John, advice taken! Lucky you!

I don't have a chance with Love Pirate...does Carmen have a sister?

Barbie, Yahoo won't let me read or send mail. What's an adventurer to do?

switch to hotmail?

Anonymous John, your analogy about weather and travel is perfect; something I tell my clients all the time. Oh, ya better not leave your house today, it might rain -- or the sun might shine. Ridiculous.

Hurricane season in the Caribbean means usually better rates -- it's hot, humid, but if you're scuba diving, you're going to get wet anyway.

divajood... you are so right. and if it's my time to go, i will be going whether i am in the caribbean or at home.

Barbie, I have a Hotmail account which seems to draw spammers out of the woodwork. Who knew there were so many fake drugs, mortgage offers, and porn sites?

Jood, your advice will be followed! John and I grew up together. After college he went to the Peace Corps, returned for an MBA, then moved back to Republica Dominicana where he met his wife, Carmen.

You and Barbie may enjoy Friday's post "Book." The review was written by my cousin, a former travel agent and English teacher.

that is just the weirdest thing. i have had my hotmail and yahoo accounts for years and with my hotmail i hardly ever get spam. maybe 3-4 a week (not that i'm complaining). yahoo is a little more maybe 20 per day but most of them go into the bulk mail folder.

all of the times i have been to the caribbean have been smack in the middle of hurricane season. the worst we saw was a brief rainstorm in the afternoon every day but it was during tea time so we were on the covered patio by then. :)

i do have a soft spot for all of mexico though.

oh, i just thought of something! how about surfing in south africa?? that would be a blast!

The only time I've been in Mexico was an afternoon in Juarez following an Outward Bound course. I'm considering a NOLS alumni course in sea kayaking in Baja, but must get more dinero!

juarez doesn't really count as mexico, dear.

that's more like america light.

if i were a sea kayaker, that course sounds interesting but HOLY CATS, is that tuition or their budget? yikes!

Now you see why I haven't been to Mexico. I did, however, attend a semester in Kenya. This was the first time I went diving!

i would sign up for kenya too! it's on my list of places to go just as soon as i win the lottery.

i could show you all over mexico. i have pretty much been top to bottom and side to side there. i love, love, love it and hope to retire there (or italy).
